Wonderfully coloured clouds at sunset on the Scottish east coast. I liked the reflection of the sky in the wet sand as the tide was going out.

This is just another take of the classic view over the impressive ridge of Sgurr Fiona and An Teallach. Unfortunately the cloud cover prevented an explosion of colours at sunset, but visibility remained decent, so no complaining from me. I would have loved to get lower to emphasize the sandstone rocks a little more, but this would have concealed Loch Toll an Lochain.

The coastline near Eyemouth is craggy, rocky and stunning. The wealth of textures created by the various rocks and cliffs is fascinating, and makes for great foregrounds. This was shot during the dawn twilight in anticipation of sunrise, and the colours were very pleasing and subtle, and I preferred the light over the light after sunrise.

Coinneach Mhor offers some stunning views over the Triple Buttress, Sail Mhor, Liathach, Ruadh-stac Mor but also the more distant summits in Torridon. Here I used an ultra-wide angle to emphasize how abrupt Liathach rises out of the surrounding landscape. I have yet to bag the munro summits of Liathach, but I am definitely looking forward to walking over that ridge.

The Torridonian sandstone pinnacles on Sgorr Tuath are almost surreal in appearance, especially with the primordial landscape of Inverpolly and Assynt as a backdrop. Stac Pollaidh, Suilven, Cul Mor and Cul Beag can all be admired from this vantage point.

The sun sets behind Tantallon castle (as seen from Seacliff beach) in the summer months. The great seaweed covered rocks really catch my eye every time I visit this beach and make for an interesting foreground, at all tide levels..

About

I am a landscape photographer based in Voorburg, The Netherlands. As a biologist by training, I am passionate about the outdoors in general, and wild areas more specifically. As a keen hiker, and having lived in Edinburgh for several years, much of my recent photography was currently done at higher levels in the Scottish Highlands, but I do occasionally branch out to the valleys and the coast.
